Is search engine marketing still alive and well in 2010? The answer is Yes it is.

Search Engine Marketing

For those of you unaware of what search engine marketing is, it is the technique of advertising your website through search engine search results in order to get more traffic to your website.
The major search engines, Google, Yahoo and many others, offer paid advertising to website holders who are looking to advertise their business. A business identifies several keywords that are related to their business. These are assigned to advertisements for the business, the advertisements then appear in the search engine search results.
When someone searches that keyword, the advertisement appears either at the top of the search results or to the right of the search results depending upon advertising budget.

Another way of describing search engine marketing is paid traffic generation. It is a strategy that many internet and affiliate marketers use to get traffic to their website. With the right copywriting, it can be an extremely effective way of generating traffic.

Search engine marketing works well for a business when the advertisements are well written. They need to be short as there are character limitations, but also punchy. They need to attract the attention of searchers as the ads will be competing against other ads for the same keywords. The better the ads, the more clicks you will get.

Search engine marketing in 2010 is a big business. Google reported increased earnings in their 2010 2nd quarter compared with the same quarter last year. This shows that search engine marketing is on the increase.

As more and more businesses move to online advertising as a way to create leads and promote their business, internet users can only benefit from the increased product and services awareness that comes with this. No longer are there good businesses and products going cold from the lack of online traffic; in 2010 search engine marketing is ensuring products and services are presented to online searchers at the start – at the search engine front.
